Description:
Successful OpenSciEd implementation begins with a strong understanding of its design, instructional routines, and emphasis on student-driven sensemaking. In this session, educators learn how to use the open-source curriculum effectively while integrating meaningful assessments tailored to district needs, all aligned with state science standards.
Participants will explore the anchoring phenomena, storyline structure, and instructional routines that drive coherent OpenSciEd units, examining how each lesson set builds toward deeper conceptual understanding. The session also guides teams in designing and customizing formative and summative assessments that align with OpenSciEd’s bundled storylines, providing actionable data to support targeted intervention and extension based on student needs.
By the end of the session, educators will leave with practical tools for delivering OpenSciEd instruction and a clear process for developing assessments that inform next steps for every learner, build teacher capacity, and ensure coherent, high-quality science instruction across K-12.
